As the culture's eating habits changed, so did the design of hunting and defensive tools. As larger animals disappeared, the large, heavy spear points gave way to the smaller, faster atl-atls. By raising more crops, tribes were able to stay longer in a specific area. This, along with the development of the bow and arrow, led to flintknapping of smaller points. Larger points could also double as knives. Smaller points could and have been used for necklaces and earrings. Lots of hunters interested in primitive bow hunting still use flint and obsidian points with great success. See Blades for larger pieces.
